About Brookside Community Health Center:

Brookside is a licensed Health Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital, providing multi-disciplinary, comprehensive care with services in various medical areas, including Adult and Pediatric Primary Care, OB/GYN, Family Planning, Dental/Oral Surgery, Nutrition/WIC, and Behavioral Health. Each year, more than 11,000 patients from Jamaica Plain and the city of Boston use these services, producing over 69,000 visits to Brookside annually. The health center's services are provided by a bilingual English/Spanish medical and professional staff. Brookside is Certified as a level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home, reinforcing our long-standing commitment to comprehensive team-based care. Brookside is a teaching site for Harvard Medical School, Mass General Institute of Nursing, Harvard Dental School, Boston University Dental School, and other Boston area healthcare professional programs.

Job Summary:

This Dentist position works independently, performing General Dentistry functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the care of their own patients and will report to the Dental Director for consultation and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnosis and treatment planning for adult and pediatric patients.
  2. Providing emergency care, including routine exodontias.
  3. Providing direct comprehensive dental care, including routine endodontic, prosthodontic, and pedodontic treatments.
  4. Assisting in supervising dental residents and students and being responsible for the care they provide.
  5. Assisting in the supervision of the care provided by the hygienist.
  6. Direct supervision over dental assistants.
  7. Monitoring the supply system.
  8. Participating in mandatory continuing education requirements.
  9. Working cooperatively with other departmental personnel in achieving center-wide health maintenance goals.
  10. Communicating and relating well with clients.

Qualifications:

  1. Requires excellent general dentistry knowledge and a Massachusetts Dentist License.
  2. Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
  3. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of dental development and treatment of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  4. General practice residency or general dentistry (3-5 years) experience is preferred.
  5. Graduate of an accredited dental school.
  6. Teaching experience is desirable.
  7. Functions performed require good clinical skill and judgment in areas of acute, short-term, and comprehensive dental care.
  8. Performs independently within the dental practice laws.
  9. Is accountable to the Dental Director on administrative issues.
  10. Requires ability to work harmoniously with colleagues within the dental department to ensure the complete delivery of care and other health professionals within the comprehensive medical environment.
  11. Those necessary to perform quality comprehensive dentistry; familiarity and skill in performing the dental specialties in general practice.

Working Conditions:

Generally pleasant, with controlled exposure to x-rays, dental materials, noise, and communicable diseases.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Responsible for the performance of assistants. Assist in supervision of dental students and hygienists.
