Job Summary

Living Classrooms Foundation's Ascend through Music Program is a dynamic initiative based at the UA House on Fayette, serving the surrounding Baltimore City community and youth.

The program provides opportunities to learn skills in music technology, musical instruments, creating original music, recording, and performance, with the goal of developing self-expression and positive character/life skills.

Program Initiatives

The Ascend through Music Program encompasses various initiatives, including:

  • After School Music Clubs
  • Solo Sessions mentorship program
  • AMPlified select performance group
  • Jam Session
  • Open Music Lab
  • Open Mic

Under the direction of the Director of Music programming, Music Educators will develop and teach programming across Living Classrooms sites, focusing on musical development, self-expression, and positive character skills.

Programming involves working with children, youth, and adults, integrating music technology, music instruments, performances, and creating original music and projects, as well as designing creative project and performance concepts.

Most programming occurs between 3-7pm on weekdays, and occasionally on Saturday late mornings and early afternoons.

Essential Functions for Music Educators
  • Create and facilitate sequential and engaging lessons, activities, and experiences that develop skills, knowledge, creativity, and confidence in music
  • Plan and guide students in preparing final projects and/or performances
  • Incorporate effective classroom management to maintain a structured, positive learning space
  • Collaborate and assist the Director and team with program-wide performances, recordings, and projects
  • Interact professionally and appropriately with students, parents, teachers, staff, and community
  • Participate in site staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities
  • Capture, create, and upload content on program social media platforms
  • Comply with all Living Classrooms Foundation/Ascend through Music Program policies and procedures
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Essential Functions for Audio Engineer & Production Educator
  • Run recording sessions for programs and program participants
  • Oversee Open Lab, including recording sessions
  • Teach group and 1:1 sessions in using Logic for creating instrumentals, compositions, recording engineering, and/or mixing
  • Mix/Master program projects and recordings
  • Set-up and maintain equipment for optimal programming use
  • Approximately 6-10 hours/week
Job Qualifications
  • Mastery of Logic Pro X and equipment to create instrumentals, projects, and recordings
  • Experience with recording equipment, running a recording session, and mixing
  • At least 2 years of experience working with a group of youth in a structured setting
  • Understanding of basic music theory as relates to foundational skills in making/creating music
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work in the late afternoon and evenings
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and address the varying needs of students
  • Comfortable working with students ages 6-17, young adults, and older adults
