Opportunity Overview

As a pivotal technical contributor to New Product Development, the Senior Mechanical Project Engineer for the North America Shower Door division is strategically positioned to recognize and propel new innovations and user experiences. Accelerating the speed and quality of product launches will significantly enhance Kohler's standing in the Bath, Shower, and Styling Space industry.

Under the functional guidance of the department Manager, you will provide technical leadership for significant new research and development initiatives, alongside product design, enhancement, and cost-reduction projects. In this capacity, you will plan, schedule, and coordinate design and development efforts. This role demands technical creativity and proficiency in design, analysis, development, and testing of new products and components, so come ready to leave your mark on the industry.

Your Contributions
  • Demonstrate your expertise: Apply engineering principles and structured problem-solving techniques to facilitate exceptional engineering designs. Conduct technical feasibility assessments of new product concepts. Collaborate with your engineering peers for insights, feedback, and reviews to enhance the quality of your technical work.
  • Collaborate for success: Partner with cross-functional teammates in Marketing, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Industrial Design. Tackle challenging decisions directly and utilize diverse team perspectives to develop superior solutions. Recommend actionable steps and align with business leadership to launch quality products efficiently.
  • Leverage Global Talent: Engage Centers of Excellence and Technical Centers worldwide to fulfill project deliverables and promote parts reuse.
  • Strive for improvement: Assess designs for environmental sustainability and propose enhancements. Interact with customers or consult experts to identify installation needs and opportunities for quality enhancements.
  • Integrate all elements: Maximize your attention to detail as an engineer. Organize and coordinate test requests, bills of materials, engineering timelines, technical communications, and other engineering activities to support new product launches.
Key Responsibilities
  • Inspire and innovate: Generate creative solutions for the Shower Door product categories. Implement innovative practices and ideas in product design that lead the industry and delight customers.
  • Assess technical feasibility: Evaluate new product concepts and redesigns for existing products. Develop comprehensive project plans including technical objectives, design specifications, schedules, project cost estimates, and product cost analyses.
  • Conduct in-depth design work: Execute design and development tasks of moderate complexity, focusing on qualification test plans to create robust products. Prepare or oversee the creation of documentation needed to define or update product specifications.
  • Manage system-level engineering: Oversee comprehensive test plans and risk analysis for the complete system, which may include mechanical, material, installation, and field tests.
  • Provide engineering analysis: Implement design modifications for product changes, improved production efficiency, or cost efficiency across a global manufacturing base.
  • Report on project progress: Prepare technical, cost, and other reports to illustrate project advancement as needed. Monitor and take appropriate actions to meet project objectives.
  • Maintain product specifications: Establish, update, and uphold product specifications, including all critical details relevant to manufacturability, regulatory considerations, and marketing/sales needs.
  • Participate in reviews: Conduct and attend Technical Design Reviews, Failure Mode and Effect Analyses, and brainstorming sessions, contributing professional opinions, creative ideas, and concepts for new product design and development projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers: Provide guidance and mentorship to less-senior engineers and technical support personnel as necessary.
  • Capture and share knowledge: Document knowledge for reuse and dissemination across the development organization as appropriate.
  • Stay informed: Maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant product technologies.
  • Communicate effectively: Utilize speaking, writing, and listening skills to share information, communicate results, express opinions, and motivate others to act both internally and within Kohler's customer base.
  • Build positive relationships: Establish and maintain constructive relationships with all contacts. Make informed decisions using support tools, accurate data, and critical thinking to justify risks under scrutiny.
  • Exhibit and encourage excellence: Demonstrate behaviors that delight customers, inspire teams, boldly innovate, and foster a proactive mentality while prioritizing effectively.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible Mechanical Project Engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with the Pro-E CAD system is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SAP or a similar business process system is strongly preferred, along with the proven ability to research and manage product data.


The salary range for this position is $89,800 - $114,100. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by various factors including the candidate's experience, education, and work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
