Overview

As a pivotal technical contributor to New Product Development, the Senior Mechanical Project Engineer for the North America Shower Door division is strategically positioned to recognize and propel new innovations and user experiences. Collaborating within highly cross-functional teams, you will design and validate components, assemblies, and systems that enhance consumer satisfaction. Accelerating the speed and quality of product launches will significantly impact Kohler's leadership in the Bath, Shower, and Styling Space industry.

Under the functional oversight of the department Manager, you will offer technical guidance for significant new research and development initiatives, as well as product design, enhancement, and cost reduction projects. In this capacity, you will plan, schedule, and coordinate design and development endeavors. This role demands technical creativity and proficiency in design, analysis, development, and testing of new products and components, so come ready to leave your mark on the industry.

Your Contributions
  • Demonstrate your expertise: Utilize engineering principles and structured problem-solving to facilitate exceptional engineering designs. Conduct technical feasibility assessments of new product concepts. Engage with your engineering colleagues for insights, feedback, and reviews to enhance your technical work.
  • Collaborate for success: Work alongside your cross-functional colleagues in Marketing, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Industrial Design. Tackle challenging decisions directly and leverage diverse team perspectives to generate superior solutions. Propose next steps and align with business leadership to launch quality products swiftly and consistently.
  • Leverage Global Talent: Engage Centers of Excellence and Technical Centers worldwide to fulfill project deliverables and promote parts reuse.
  • Strive for improvement: Assess designs for environmental sustainability and suggest enhancements. Interact with customers or consult experts to comprehend installation needs and identify opportunities for quality enhancements.
  • Integrate efforts: Maximize the attention to detail you've developed as an engineer. Organize and coordinate test requests, bills of materials, engineering timelines, technical communications, and other engineering activities in support of new product launches.
Key Responsibilities
  • Inspire and innovate creative solutions for the Shower Door product categories. Implement innovative practices and ideas in product design that lead our industry and delight our customers.
  • Assess the technical feasibility of new product concepts and redesigns for existing products. Develop comprehensive project plans that include technical objectives, design specifications, schedule plans, project cost estimates, and product cost analyses.
  • Conduct detailed design and development work of moderate complexity. Pay particular attention to qualification test plans to create robust products. Prepare or oversee the creation of drawings and documentation necessary to define or update product specifications.
  • Manage system-level engineering of a product. Be accountable for comprehensive test plans and risk analyses for full systems, including mechanical, material, installation, and field tests.
  • Provide engineering analysis and implement design modifications for product changes, improved production efficiency, or cost efficiency across a global manufacturing base.
  • Prepare project, technical, cost, and other reports to demonstrate project progress as required. Monitor and take appropriate actions to achieve project objectives.
  • Establish, update, and maintain product specifications, ensuring all relevant details regarding manufacturability, regulatory considerations, and marketing/sales aspects are included.
  • Participate in Technical Design Reviews, Failure Mode and Effect Analyses, and brainstorming sessions, contributing professional opinions, creative ideas, concepts, and approaches to new product design and development projects.
  • Mentor and guide less-senior engineers and technical support personnel as needed.
  • Capture knowledge for reuse and sharing across the development organization as appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant product technologies.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to share information, convey results, express opinions, and motivate others to act within Kohler's customer base.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all contacts. Make informed decisions using support tools, accurate data, and critical thinking to justify risks under scrutiny.
  • Exhibit and encourage behaviors that delight customers, inspire colleagues, foster innovation, and demonstrate ownership and appropriate prioritization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible Mechanical Project Engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with the Pro-E CAD system is highly desired.
  • Experience with SAP or a similar business process system is strongly preferred, along with the demonstrated ability to research and manage product data.


The salary range for this position is $89,800 - $114,100. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by various factors including the candidate's experience, education, and work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
