Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. As a commissioned law enforcement officer, you will be responsible for protecting persons and property on our campus, detecting and preventing crime, and maintaining peace and order.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce all laws, including penal and traffic laws, to ensure a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or in a police vehicle to prevent and respond to crimes.
  • Respond to all calls for assistance, service, and hazardous situations in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of reported incidents, complete required reports, and provide evidence to support investigations.
  • Conduct crime prevention program presentations to educate the community on safety and security measures.
  • Attend required annual training seminars to stay up-to-date on the latest law enforcement techniques and procedures.
  • Utilize police equipment, such as firearms, batons, handcuffs, mobile and handheld radios, cameras, and other equipment, to perform duties effectively.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver's license.
  • Must be TCOLE certified.
  • Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver's License check prior to an interview.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.
  • Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 10 years of experience in law enforcement.
  • Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions.
Additional Information

Salary will be based on years of experience. Additional monetary benefits include special event overtime pay, uniforms and equipment provided, paid University Holidays, education incentive after probationary period, state benefits, longevity pay, and retirement. Tuition benefits up to 3 hours/week based on eligibility, and hazardous duty pays of $10 a month for each 12-month period of lifetime service credit.
