Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Electronic Technician to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electronic communications equipment, including two-way radio systems, microwave antennas, and associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain two-way radio systems, including base stations, repeaters, and mobile radios.
  • Perform routine maintenance, modifications, and repairs on electronic communications equipment, including microwave antennas and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic communications systems, including radio frequency interference and signal degradation issues.
  • Design and implement communication systems, including network architecture and configuration.
  • Provide technical support and training to other team members on communication systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless communication systems and equipment operation.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in electronic communications, including installation, maintenance, and repair of two-way radio systems and microwave antennas.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic communications principles, including radio frequency theory and signal processing.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a state vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, often under tight deadlines. The position requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the state, including remote areas with limited access to amenities. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and stakeholders.
