Job Title: Director Employee and Labor Relations

We are seeking a seasoned professional to join our team as a Director Employee and Labor Relations. This role will be responsible for overseeing all labor relations activities across the organization, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations, and fostering positive relationships with labor unions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement labor relations strategies to promote a positive and productive work environment.
  • Manage the grievance process, including conducting fact-finding investigations, facilitating hearings, and rendering decisions.
  • Provide guidance and support to HR Directors/HR Business Partners on collective bargaining agreements, contract administration, and labor relations issues.
  • Develop and deliver labor relations training programs to ensure managers and supervisors have the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage labor relations.
  • Serve as a member of the collective bargaining team during negotiations, working closely with the Sr. Director ER/LR/Compliance to develop negotiating strategy and prepare proposals.
  • Oversee and direct a team of labor relations specialists, providing direction, guidance, and support to resolve escalated and complex labor relations issues.
  • Maintain records and monitor compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations.
  • Analyze labor relations data, trends, and metrics to provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Seven years of experience in labor relations, including significant experience in collective bargaining, contract administration, and counseling management.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field or Juris Doctor (JD).
  • Previous experience in a higher education environment.
  • Specialized experience in handling grievances, negotiations, employment, employee relations, and employment law.

  • Experience in drafting and writing contractual language.
  • Ability to influence change and compliance in a highly matrixed and decentralized environment.
  • Knowledge of employment/labor laws, regulations, case law, and their application.
