Job Summary

The Natural Gas Pipeline Technician plays a crucial role in the construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of natural gas distribution systems.

This position involves various fusing tasks related to new construction, as well as the repair and upkeep of existing gas utility lines and associated systems/equipment. Responsibilities include fusing pipe casings, vault lids, and fittings, joining metal components, working on hot gas mains, repairing damaged parts, and fabricating specialized components.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the crew in handling and fusing gas pipes.
  • Fuse pipes that are either excavated or drilled underground.
  • Ensure all fusions comply with quality standards.
  • Maintain tools in optimal working condition.
  • Identify utilities manually using a shovel and probe.
  • Oversee inventory on the service vehicle.
  • Train fellow employees on proper fusing techniques.
  • Perform additional duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in gas pipeline work.
  • Operator Qualification (OQ) is preferred.
  • Class A CDL is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in gas pipeline operations is desirable.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a field environment. The role frequently requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting, often in awkward positions. Employees may work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This role is physically active, requiring the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Additionally, clarity of vision at distances of 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less is necessary, along with the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors are also required.
