About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Family Engagement Specialist to join our team at Illinois Action for Children. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in building and maintaining supportive relationships with families, beginning at enrollment. Your primary responsibility will be to partner with families to assess their needs, identify their goals, and access appropriate resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Maintain Family Relationships: Develop authentic and supportive relationships with each family, beginning at enrollment. Partner with families to identify their needs and set and achieve ambitious goals.
  • Family Needs Assessments: Complete family needs assessments within required deadlines. Document all work with families using the COPA database. Maintain individual child files with required documentation.
  • Enrollment Process: Complete the enrollment process with families and support families with resources to obtain any missing documentation for enrollment.
  • Recruitment and Outreach: Participate in recruitment and outreach activities, including identifying potential partnerships and community resources.
  • Mental Health and Disabilities Support: Partner with the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator to facilitate referrals for mental health services or evaluations of children with suspected special needs. Support and advocate for families throughout the process.
  • Policies and Procedures: Implement policies, procedures, and systems to ensure full agency compliance with the parent involvement and program governance component requirements of all funders.
  • Parent Involvement and Engagement: Contribute to the development of annual and ongoing training and involvement plans for parents/guardians, including implementing appropriate parent/guardian curricula. Obtain family input to inform and develop plans.
  • Confidentiality and Communication: Ensure confidentiality of parent and provider information received and managed by IAFC. Execute our workplace core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement (CQI), communication, competent people, and clear priorities.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or a closely related field. Two years of experience as a caseworker or similar position. Prior experience working with children and families.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and insurance required.
