Job Summary:

The Banquets Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the Banquet Department at Marriott Knoxville Downtown. This role focuses on cost control and exceptional guest service, ensuring seamless execution of banquets and events. The Banquets Manager is in charge of hiring, training, coaching, disciplining, and reviewing banquet staff. This position requires strong leadership and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management: Supervise and direct the work of banquet staff, including captains, servers, and bartenders. Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to ensure excellent service and high-quality food presentation.
  • Event Planning and Execution: Coordinate all aspects of banquets and events, including setup, serving, and breakdown. Work closely with the catering team to ensure accurate counts, menu planning, and food preparation.
  • Staffing and Scheduling: Prepare schedules and wage progress reports for banquet staff. Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate banquet personnel, in collaboration with the Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Financial Management: Prepare payroll and tip distribution for the Banquet department. Control and audit alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ensuring accurate inventory and minimizing losses.
  • Customer Service: Respond to guests' requests and concerns in a professional and courteous manner. Ensure that pre-meal meetings are conducted for all functions, and that banquet staff provides exceptional service to guests.
  • Safety and Sanitation: Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to Marriott's high standards for safety, sanitation, and cleanliness.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Attend weekly Food and Beverage meetings to ensure proper communication between departments. Participate in required M.O.D. coverage as scheduled, and conduct menu classes as necessary to develop staff.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required, with at least 2 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field.
  • Experience: Supervisory experience required, with a proven track record of leadership and management.
  • Skills: Proficient in Windows operating systems, with excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
