ROLE:
Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer

DEPARTMENT:
Engineering

REPORTS TO:
Vice President of Operations

SALARY GRADE:
Exempt

Main Responsibilities:
Oversee and coordinate instrumentation and control systems activities across the organization.

Act as the discipline lead for relevant capital projects.

Serve as project manager/engineer for instrumentation and control capital initiatives.

Provide technical assistance to operational facilities regarding instrumentation, control systems, and DCS challenges.

Guide the formulation of standard control methodologies, as well as protocols for instrumentation and control hardware, software, and systems.

Key Duties:
Assist in diagnosing issues related to process controls, DCS, and field instruments.

Ensure that installation schematics, data sheets, and specifications for instrumentation and DCS are compliant with industry standards and internal engineering guidelines.

Contribute to the technical development of project P&IDs and PFDs.

Establish engineering standards for instrumentation, control methodologies, DCS installations, and HMI interfaces.

Manage the Central Data Historian System, ensuring proper interfaces at each facility.

Develop project timelines and workforce requirements for DCS initiatives.

Provide specifications for the procurement of DCS components and hardware.

Oversee the management of plant DCS systems.

Formulate effective control strategies, logic, and HMI graphics.

Ensure adherence to all Management of Change protocols for modifications to DCS programming.

Assist in enhancing the skills and capabilities of plant I&E technicians in the operation and maintenance of DCS.

Maintain high reliability standards for all control and DCS components.

Develop and implement projects aimed at upgrading, maintaining, and enhancing the reliability of plant DCS systems.

Support annual turnaround planning as it pertains to instrumentation and controls.

Respond to emergencies and operational downtimes as necessary.

Foster relationships with I&E contractors, vendors, and suppliers to enhance access to essential parts and support for improving plant reliability.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical or Electrical Engineering.

3 to 7 years of relevant experience preferred.

Familiarity with NFPA/NEC codes and HAZOP procedures is advantageous.

Experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS is essential.

Proficiency in PLCs and system interfaces is required.

Experience with OSISoft PI Enterprise Server is highly recommended.

Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Excel.

Plant experience is strongly preferred.

Project management skills are highly valued.

Extensive troubleshooting and repair skills with computers.

Knowledge of Ethernet networking components and TCP/IP protocols is beneficial.
