We are seeking a dedicated Charge Entry Specialist to join our team in Humble, Texas. This full-time position is essential for ensuring that all charges incurred during patient care are accurately recorded and billed in a timely manner. The Charge Entry Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of patient medical information, particularly regarding billing and insurance details.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Input billing and insurance information into the hospital's computer system.
  • Oversee the data entry of patient demographics and verify authorizations.
  • Ensure accurate entry of charge codes, operating room times, and surgeon details to facilitate precise billing.
  • Initiate and implement charge corrections as necessary, determining corrective actions to resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Promptly communicate any identified inaccuracies or challenges to management to ensure compliance with policies and timely charge capture.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of documentation to substantiate charges, demonstrating a solid understanding of anatomy and medical terminology in accordance with coding and billing guidelines.
  • Verify pricing accuracy upon receipt of purchase orders for billable supplies.
  • Receive and process charge tickets from various departments for supplies ordered from external vendors.
  • Request management approval for new charge codes to be assigned and added to the billing fee schedule.
  • Daily reconciliation of charges to identify and rectify any missing entries, ensuring accurate submission for services rendered.
  • Proactively review schedules and patient census to confirm that all services are properly closed out each day.
  • Effectively communicate with nursing staff regarding any missing or incomplete charges to facilitate resolution.
  • Utilize appropriate reconciliation tools daily, including charge reconciliation reports and clinical documentation tools, to support compliant billing practices.
  • Assist in monitoring billing compliance and may contribute to staff training sessions as needed.
  • Support data collection and summarization for special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as directed by your supervisor.
