Position Overview:
The role is accountable for delivering, sustaining, and enhancing the Laboratory Services Quality Management program.

Key Responsibilities:
Memorial Hermann's Medical Group is in search of a Clinical Laboratory Operations Specialist to become part of our team. This position will support our MHMG team by:
  • Providing training and education to staff on Point of Care equipment, processes, and protocols.
  • Overseeing maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensuring quality control and quality assurance measures are upheld.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

The specialist will be required to travel to designated MHMG clinics; reliable transportation is essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related discipline.

Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess registration as a Medical Technologist (ASCP), Certified MLS(ASCP), or Certified MLS(ASCP)CM.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
A minimum of five years of clinical laboratory experience, including roles in a lead or senior capacity.

Principal Accountabilities:


Coordinates proficiency orders, receives and distributes proficiency testing samples, and analyzes all proficiency data and exception reports to comply with CAP acceptable guidelines.

Ensures accuracy in non-proficiency testing.

Maintains compliance with conditions and standards set by various governmental and accrediting bodies, including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, HCFA, OSHA, and CLIA. Prepares various QA/QI reports for the Monthly Operating Report and Laboratory Services Quality Plan.

Examples include turnaround times, critical values, and red arm bands.
Provides technical support for modifications to test tables and quality control configurations.

Analyzes quality control data and summarizes findings for Laboratory and Medical Directors. Conducts necessary function and equipment checks to ensure a safe laboratory environment by performing safety assessments, gathering safety data for various quality assurance reports, preparing safety tests, and serving as a resource for the laboratory safety program.

Evaluates new instruments, methodologies, reagents, and quality control measures to support laboratory testing within the system. This includes performing validations of analyzers and documenting the precision and accuracy of tests.
Recognizes that customers encompass patients, physicians, administration, and other departments. Implements and maintains effective processes to monitor and enhance customer satisfaction. Supports System and campus customer service initiatives. Utilizes and promotes the use of PIC principles.
Supports the System Quality Initiative. Utilizes and promotes quality processes, techniques, and principles to enhance key processes. Ensures that systems are in place to adequately monitor and validate laboratory results. Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve campus processes.
Builds and sustains effective relationships with Laboratory and Medical Directors, other management members, and staff. Is attuned to the needs of others. Exemplifies the expected behaviors in all interactions.

Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards while managing budgetary constraints, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.

Encourages individual professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, and supporting department-based goals that contribute to the organization's success; serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced staff.
