Position Overview
The role is pivotal in providing, sustaining, and enhancing the Quality Management program for Laboratory Services. Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Operations Specialist to be part of our MHMG team, responsible for the following:
- Conducting training and educational sessions for staff on Point of Care equipment, processes, and protocols.
- Overseeing the maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Implementing quality control and quality assurance measures.
- Performing additional tasks as required.
Essential Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related discipline.
- Licenses/Certifications: Certification as a Registered (ASCP) Medical Technologist, Certified MLS(ASCP), or Certified MLS(ASCP)CM is mandatory.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- A minimum of five years of clinical laboratory experience, including roles in a leadership or senior capacity.

- Coordinates proficiency testing orders, manages the distribution of proficiency samples, and analyzes proficiency data and exception reports to ensure compliance with CAP guidelines.
- Oversees non-proficiency testing for accuracy.
- Ensures adherence to standards and regulations set by various governmental and accrediting bodies, including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, HCFA, OSHA, and CLIA.
- Prepares various quality assurance and quality improvement reports for the Monthly Operating Report and Laboratory Services Quality Plan, including turnaround times and critical values.
- Provides technical support for modifications to test tables and quality control systems.
- Analyzes quality control data and summarizes findings for Laboratory and Medical Directors.
- Conducts necessary function and equipment checks.
- Ensures a safe laboratory environment by performing safety checks, compiling safety data for quality assurance reports, and serving as a resource for the laboratory safety program.
- Evaluates new instruments, methods, reagents, and quality control measures to support laboratory testing within the organization, including performing validations of analyzers and documenting precision and accuracy of tests.
- Recognizes that customers include patients, physicians, administration, and other departments; implements and maintains effective processes to monitor and enhance customer satisfaction while supporting System and campus customer service initiatives.
- Supports the System Quality Initiative by utilizing quality processes, techniques, and principles to enhance key processes, ensuring that systems are in place to monitor and validate laboratory results.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with Laboratory and Medical Directors, management, and staff, demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of others and exemplifying behavioral expectations.
- Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, including time management, supply management, productivity, and service quality.
- Encourages individual professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory and continuing education, supporting department-based goals that contribute to organizational success, and serving as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
