POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves the safe transportation of individuals, including seniors and those with developmental disabilities, utilizing a suitably sized vehicle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all passengers are securely fastened during transit.
  • Properly operate wheelchair lifts for safe loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Store all wheelchair equipment correctly before vehicle movement.
  • Drive in various weather conditions and terrains for trips and related travel as necessary.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with passengers, service centers, caregivers, and colleagues.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Safely transport passengers to and from designated locations.
  • Utilize two-way radio communication.
  • Maintain a safe environment within the vehicle by enforcing conduct rules and managing emergencies.
  • Keep the vehicle clean to ensure safe operational conditions.
  • Document and report any minor accidents.
  • Complete daily vehicle condition reports accurately.
  • Read and interpret maps effectively.
  • Perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Prepare necessary reports as required.
  • Travel for business purposes as needed.
  • Exhibit regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Be available for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To successfully perform this role, an individual must meet the following qualifications:

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED is required.

EXPERIENCE:

A valid Commercial A or B license with passenger endorsement (P) is mandatory. Six months of relevant experience is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary certifications within 30 days of hire.
  • Possess and maintain a valid commercial A or B license with passenger endorsement (P).
  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record, reliable transportation, and adequate auto insurance as mandated by state law.
  • Pass a comprehensive background check, including a medical examination and fingerprint clearance.
  • CPR and First Aid training must be completed within six months of hire.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required unless exempted for medical or religious reasons.
  • Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and comply with ongoing testing requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands of this position require the employee to regularly sit, talk, and hear. Frequent walking, using hands for handling, and reaching are also necessary. Occasionally, the employee may need to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The ability to lift and move items weighing up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 20 pounds occasionally is required. Specific vision abilities needed include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position may expose the employee to outdoor weather conditions occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
