Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician I (Seasonal CWD Lab Technician) to join our team at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. As a key member of our Wildlife Health Program, you will be responsible for processing tissues harvested from cervid species for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) diagnostic testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform entry-level to routine laboratory work under the direction of our Wildlife Health Specialist and the Assistant Section Head of Serology at Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
  • Process tissues harvested from cervid species for CWD diagnostic testing.
  • Collaborate with our team to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Comply with all rules, regulations, and procedures of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
Requirements
  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • No experience required.
  • Valid State driver's license (if driving is required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with or working towards a Bachelor's degree in Biological Science.
  • Experience preparing diagnostic samples using sharp instruments.
  • Experience as a TPWD Wildlife Division seasonal.
Working Conditions

Required to work 40 hours per week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Required to work overtime as necessary. Required to take a pre-exposure rabies vaccination series; costs are covered by TPWD Wildlife Division. Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures. Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
