GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Senior Manager of Environmental Compliance and Safety acts as the chief environmental and safety authority for all operational sites within DeZURIK. This position holds significant organizational influence and serves as a proactive leader and catalyst for change within the Safety division and throughout the company. The Senior Manager is tasked with the creation, direction, and execution of initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. This role encompasses the management of a thorough EHS framework that mitigates costs and risks linked to environmental regulations, sustainability, health, and safety. The Senior Manager of Environmental Compliance and Safety is expected to embody the core values of DeZURIK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations and submits necessary documentation to relevant authorities.
  • Leads the formulation of training initiatives to achieve objectives through Learning Management Systems across all DeZURIK sites.
  • Accountable for instructing team members on Behavioral Based Safety methodologies.
  • Oversees the development of all environmental documentation, plans, and permits (e.g., SPCC, SWPPP, Title IV Air Permit, Wastewater permit, Hazardous waste management) along with all related reporting.
  • Identifies prevalent safety and health risks associated with the organization's operations and establishes protocols for safeguarding against these risks.
  • Conducts hazard assessments for all operational tasks, ensuring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized when risks cannot be mitigated.
  • Evaluates safety programs for compliance with corporate standards, governmental regulations, and specific local conditions.
  • Monitors periodic performance metrics for trends and conditions, notifying relevant management of any issues.
  • Develops policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and promote best practices for the overall safety and health of DeZURIK personnel.
  • Investigates significant accidents, incidents, and hazards, recommending preventive measures and ensuring their implementation.
  • Maintains oversight of all DeZURIK locations to guarantee compliance with governmental environmental health and safety standards, ensuring uniformity in procedures and record-keeping.
  • Reviews new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards, recommending adjustments prior to their introduction.
  • Collaborates with team members and supervisors to identify and rectify potential safety and health risks.
  • Develops safe standard operating procedures and monitors adherence.
  • Provides insights to support plant engineering in implementing engineering controls to reduce safety and occupational health risks.
  • Manages the Workers' Compensation program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of safety protocols in a manufacturing context.
  • Professional certification is advantageous.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues and develop solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Proficient in PC applications, including spreadsheet and word processing software necessary for documentation.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and influence teams with or without direct authority.
  • Competence in developing and executing environmental and safety programs.
  • Capability to maintain records in compliance with all corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to establish high standards and achieve results.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25-30% of the time within the US and Canada.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical demands are typical of an office role, including prolonged periods of sitting and extensive use of a computer and telephone.
  • Position requires mobility within the office to address work-related issues and facilitate processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Standard manufacturing and office settings. When working in certain shop areas, personal protective equipment (PPE) may be recommended or required (e.g., safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, face shields, gloves, aprons, and boots). The role may involve stress due to workload and deadlines. Flexibility to support extended business hours to meet operational needs is essential.
