Position Overview

The role involves the repair, modification, and overhaul of various mechanical systems and equipment. Candidates will be responsible for setting up and operating portable machining tools and equipment. This position requires physical stamina, including heavy lifting, frequent bending, and the potential for assignments in confined spaces or overhead structures. A strong commitment to safety protocols, quality standards, and effective housekeeping practices is essential, along with the ability to engage in frequent travel and overtime as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Work with minimal supervision while demonstrating familiarity with trade qualifications and performing most tasks associated with the role of Marine Mechanical Outside Machinist.
  • Possess the skills to set up, align, and operate various portable and hand tools relevant to the trade, as well as utilize precision measuring instruments such as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, and thermometers. Accurately record measurements and complete necessary documentation for repairs and testing.
  • Interpret and work from basic blueprints, sketches, and specifications, with experience in disassembling, repairing, installing, testing, and inspecting marine machinery, including propulsion systems, pumps, valves, and ventilation equipment.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

  • This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Project Manager or immediate Project Supervisor.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED with an Apprenticeship Diploma, along with additional vocational training or technical school completion; military or civilian experience in marine mechanical systems is preferred.
  • Ability to secure government base access is required.
  • Successful completion of knowledge and practical skills assessments is necessary.
  • Certifications such as NAVSEA Hatch Inspector, Electroplating, and Deep Submergence Systems (SOC MCD A, B, and C) are advantageous.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Secret/Confidential security clearance.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen without dual citizenship.
