Position Overview

The role involves the repair, modification, and overhaul of diverse equipment and systems. This position requires the setup and operation of portable machining tools and equipment. The job entails physical demands such as heavy lifting, frequent bending or stooping, and may include assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces, or under machinery. Adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and good housekeeping practices is essential, along with a high level of critical thinking and reading comprehension. Frequent travel and overtime may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates with minimal supervision and is knowledgeable about trade qualifications, capable of performing most tasks associated with the role of Marine Mechanical Outside Machinist.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the setup, alignment, and operation of various portable and hand tools utilized in the trade, along with the ability to use precision measuring instruments such as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, layout tools, tachometers, thermometers, and vibration indicators. Accurately records readings and measurements and completes necessary documentation, repairs, and testing of equipment.
  • Interprets and works from basic blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Possesses experience in disassembly, repair, installation, testing, and inspection of marine machinery, including propulsion machinery, pumps, valves, ventilation systems, steering gear, and other related equipment.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • Reports directly to the Project Manager or immediate Project Supervisor.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED with an Apprenticeship Diploma, along with additional vocational training or technical school graduation; military or civilian experience with marine mechanical systems in a repair environment or shipyard is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain government base access is required.
  • Knowledge and practical skills assessments are mandatory.
  • Certifications such as NAVSEA Hatch Inspector, Electroplating, Deep Submergence Systems (SOC MCD A, B, and C), and SUBSAFE Qualification are necessary.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Secret/Confidential security clearance.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen without dual citizenship in any other country.
