Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse I to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine public health nursing work in the clinical or non-clinical setting, with a focus on perinatal hepatitis B prevention and case management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management: Perform case management activities related to perinatal hepatitis B prevention, including tracking, resolving, and coordinating care for vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Education and Training: Provide assistance in assessing community needs, develop and implement educational activities for health professionals, and provide consultation, training, and technical assistance to staff.
  • Direct Service Provision: Provide public health nursing services in the clinic, home, and community, including individualized care, lab testing, home visits, and referrals.
  • Regional Support and Disaster Response/Recovery: Participate in regional assignments, duties, and special initiatives, and respond to public health emergencies as needed.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures, public health laws and regulations, community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the delivery of direct public health services, provide patient care, and communicate effectively via written and verbal communication.
  • Must be able to independently travel throughout the State of Texas and out-of-state to complete essential job functions.
Working Conditions

This position is office-based, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Must comply with HHS, DSHS, Texas Department of Public Safety applicable policies/procedures/standards.

Education and Experience

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and completion of Incident Command System courses.
