QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent, along with one of the following: An associate degree or higher with a GPA of 2.0 or above from an accredited institution, or Sixty college credits from an accredited institution, or A score of 459 or higher on the ParaPro Test.
  • Exhibits strong communication abilities, both written and verbal in English.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in a second language, if required by the role.
  • Has experience engaging with children in diverse environments; preferred.
  • Possesses knowledge of behavior management strategies; preferred.
  • Familiarity with software applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint; preferred.
  • Understands accommodations for students with special needs; preferred.
  • Must be capable of standing and working continuously for a minimum of 4 hours each workday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Objective: Collaborate directly with students under the guidance of the teacher. Provide coaching and modeling to promote active participation of students in their educational environment.
  • Ensure the safety of students in all school and community settings.
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
  • Utilize knowledge of the social, emotional, medical, and academic needs of individual students, gained through collaboration with teachers and/or specialists.
  • Work alongside teachers and/or related service providers to plan and implement activities and resources for students.
  • Engage with students in various formats, including individual, small group, or whole group settings, as outlined by instructional programs.
  • Support students across a range of subjects, including math, science, English, social studies, and electives.
  • In an inclusive setting, work with both students with IEPs and regular education students.
  • Assist in the ongoing assessment of student progress, which may involve data collection and computer tasks.
  • Communicate essential information regarding student progress and concerns to the assigned teacher or administrator.
  • Support classroom discipline through behavior management plans as directed by the teacher.
  • Uphold dignity and respect for each student at all times.
  • May assist the teacher or independently perform routine tasks such as classroom duties, record keeping, grading papers, preparing materials, and managing multimedia equipment.
  • May help supervise social interactions during non-instructional activities, such as lunch, recess, and transitions between activities.
  • Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours each workday.
  • Must have the ability to use arms and hands freely to meet the physical and mobility needs of students.
  • Must arrive at work punctually each day, except as permitted by law.
  • Must fulfill all assigned duties during scheduled workdays.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by administration to support student needs.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance in all settings as per district guidelines.
  • Utilize initiative to address challenges effectively.
  • Adhere to district and building procedures.
