Position Summary
The Cloud Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) team, a vital part of Cloud Operations and Innovations Engineering (CO+IE), is in search of a dedicated and skilled Senior Applied Scientist. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to tackle complex, high-impact challenges that can significantly enhance CO+I operations.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Applied Scientist within the CAAI team, you will:

  • Engage in various subfields to develop expertise in a wide range of research methodologies.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of services, platforms, or domains related to Large Language Models (LLM) and assess product requirements by analyzing current industry trends and applied technologies.
  • Review business needs and integrate research to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Provide strategic insights regarding data utilization to address challenges and leverage your deep subject matter expertise to drive business outcomes.
  • Participate in the onboarding of early-career team members and contribute to developing academic talent for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Identify emerging research talent for Microsoft and collaborate with the academic sector to enhance the recruitment pipeline.
  • Document ongoing work and experimental results, sharing findings to foster innovation.
  • Utilize your understanding of fairness and bias to influence ethical and privacy policies concerning research processes and data collection.

Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3+ years of experience, or a Doctorate with 1+ year of experience in relevant fields.

Preferred:
Master's Degree with 6+ years of experience or a Doctorate with 3+ years of experience in applicable fields. Proven experience in creating publications, presenting at conferences, and conducting research in academic or industry settings is highly desirable.

Compensation
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year, with variations for specific locations.
