Job Summary:

This position performs assessments, treatment planning, and discharge planning under general supervision. The Counselor provides counseling and therapy to clients requiring complex intervention, coordinates and monitors the assessment and treatment planning process, and provides social support to cope with mental illness and disabilities.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct intake, screening, assessment, and referral of clients as appropriate.
  • Provide effective clinical assessments by gathering relevant information to identify problems and determine eligibility criteria.
  • Develop person-centered plans for service users.
  • Establish individual treatment plans outlining goals of treatment.
  • Provide individual, family, or group counseling/training to facilitate recovery.
  • Evaluate, facilitate, and monitor services and client progress in relation to established goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information according to established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adjust techniques and interventions as needed to ensure progress and recovery.
  • Ensure current treatment plans and authorized services before provision.
  • Deliver services clinically appropriate to consumer needs and meet responsibilities to consumers and third-party payors.
  • Oversee discharge planning process.
  • Coordinate closely with the interdisciplinary team to best help service users.
  • Record services accurately and complete required clinical documentation according to agency standards.
  • Maintain case files in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate services of various inter/intra community resources across disciplines.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of individual and group therapy techniques.
  • Knowledge of agency and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic impressions or criteria.
  • Knowledge of client advocacy systems.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.

  • Knowledge of DSM-IV criteria and diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of treatment approaches relevant to the field.

Masters degree from an accredited program and two years of related experience or Masters degree from an accredited program and pursuing licensure in the area of assignment. Valid GA driver's license.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a variable business setting with trips into the community. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and provides basic employment support in various environments. Some minor travel between Gateway sites and in the community is required.
