Counselor

This position performs assessments, treatment planning, and discharge planning under general supervision. The Counselor provides counseling and therapy to clients requiring complex intervention, coordinates and monitors the assessment and treatment planning process, and provides social support to cope with mental illness and disabilities.
Essential Functions:- Conduct intake, screening, assessment, and referral of clients as appropriate.
- Develop person-centered plans for service users and establish individual treatment plans outlining goals of treatment.
- Provide individual, family, or group counseling/training to facilitate recovery and evaluate, facilitate, and monitor services and client progress.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and adjust techniques and interventions as needed to ensure barriers to progress are addressed.
- Ensure treatment plans are current and services are authorized before being provided.
- Deliver services that meet best practice guidelines and oversee the discharge planning process.
- Coordinate closely with the interdisciplinary team to best help service users.
- Record services accurately and maintain all documentation in accordance with policies, laws, and instructions.
- Ensure all services provided are within guidelines and document care in compliance with agency requirements and standards.
- Knowledge of individual and group therapy techniques, agency and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines, diagnostic impressions or criteria, client advocacy systems, crisis intervention techniques, and various therapeutic models and interventions.
- Ability to implement treatment plans or behavioral plans to assist with resolving crises or delivering services, establish and prioritize goals and objectives, provide guidance and direction in the development of policies and procedures, and oversee compliance with all applications and regulations.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations, complete and interpret psychosocial assessments, develop treatment/care plans and measurable goals, and make appropriate referrals.

Required Education & Experience:A Master's degree from an accredited program and two years of related experience or a Master's degree from an accredited program and pursuing licensure in the area of assignment. A valid GA driver's license is also required.
Work Environment:This job operates in a variable business setting with trips into the community. The role routinely uses standard office equipment and provides basic employment support in loud/quiet environments, outdoors/indoors, etc. Some minor travel between Gateway sites and in the community is required.
