Position Overview
The Brunswick Job Corps Center is in search of a dedicated and empathetic Substance Abuse Counselor. This role is pivotal in assisting young individuals in overcoming their challenges and fostering a positive future. As a TEAP Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a vital role in our student support team, providing essential counseling services, leading educational initiatives, and creating a nurturing environment that encourages recovery and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individual Counseling: Conduct personalized counseling sessions to evaluate and address the specific needs of students facing substance abuse issues. Formulate tailored treatment plans that facilitate recovery and personal growth.
- Group Therapy: Lead therapeutic group sessions to cultivate a supportive community for participants in the TEAP program. Ensure a safe space for open discussions, sharing experiences, and mutual support.
- Educational Workshops: Design and execute workshops focused on substance abuse prevention, relapse avoidance, and essential life skills. Equip students with the knowledge and tools necessary for making healthy choices.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate assistance during crisis situations. Collaborate with the support team to ensure a thorough and coordinated response for students in distress.
- Collaboration with External Resources: Partner with external substance abuse treatment providers, mental health experts, and community organizations to guarantee continuous care for students transitioning from the Job Corps program.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain precise and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and treatment plans. Prepare reports as needed and engage in case conferences to review student progress.

Qualifications:
- Valid, active, unrestricted in-state License or Certification in Substance Abuse Counseling/Prevention required.
- A minimum of one year of experience in drug/alcohol counseling or a related field is required.
