The Leidos Digital Modernization Sector Health IT Division is in search of a Senior Azure Solution Architect with profound knowledge and experience in Microsoft Azure technologies and architecture. This role is crucial in guiding Federal Health clients through their cloud migration journey, designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud-based solutions on the Azure platform. The objective is to ensure a scalable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure that meets user research and operational requirements. The Senior Azure Solution Architect will work closely with SecDevOps teams, stakeholders, and Azure representatives to provide innovative solutions that facilitate cloud adoption. Additionally, this position involves collaboration with various stakeholders across the customer enterprise, external partners, and Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) to ensure a smooth transition while minimizing operational disruptions.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of Azure services, infrastructure components, security best practices, and architectural frameworks. Responsibilities include:

Cloud Architecture Design:

  1. Assist clients in conceptualizing and designing robust Azure solutions, offering guidance on resource allocation, scalability, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance enhancement.
  2. Create and maintain detailed cloud architecture blueprints for enterprise applications and workloads.
  3. Assess and recommend the most appropriate Azure services and configurations for optimal performance and cost efficiency.
  4. Design scalable and resilient cloud solutions tailored to specific requirements.
  5. Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and management utilizing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates and Terraform.

Solution Implementation:

  1. Lead the deployment of cloud solutions, including migrating existing applications and developing new cloud-native applications.
  2. Support the implementation process by providing insights on deployment strategies, automation, and monitoring.
  3. Configure and optimize Azure services, ensuring compliance with best practices and security standards.
  4. Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and management using IaC tools.

Technical Guidance and Support:

  1. Offer expert technical guidance to IT teams and stakeholders regarding Azure best practices, architectural patterns, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  2. Mentor and train junior cloud engineers on Azure technologies and solution design principles.
  3. Collaborate with Azure representatives to leverage their expertise and stay updated on the latest Azure offerings.
  4. Identify and resolve issues in existing Azure environments, analyze performance bottlenecks, and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  5. Provide expert advice on Azure-related topics, including cloud migration strategies, security hardening, compliance requirements, and system integration.

Performance Optimization:

  1. Monitor cloud performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
  2. Conduct regular assessments of cloud infrastructure and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  3. Ensure that cloud solutions are highly available, fault-tolerant, and resilient to disasters.

Security and Compliance:

  1. Design and implement cloud security measures to safeguard data and applications.
  2. Ensure adherence to relevant security standards, regulations, and policies.
  3. Conduct regular security evaluations and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with a minimum of 12+ years of experience in architecting and implementing Azure cloud solutions.
  2. Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
  3. Demonstrated success in managing large-scale, complex migrations involving multiple stakeholders.
  4. Experience with Azure cloud technologies and migration methodologies.
  5. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (ARM templates, Terraform) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  6. Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless computing.
  7. Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  8. Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  10. Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines.
  11. ITIL Foundations certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. In-depth understanding of Azure services (Azure VMs, Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Azure Functions, etc.) and their integration.
  2. Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash) and experience with automation frameworks.
  3. Experience delivering IT services in support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or in a biomedical research environment.
  4. Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Google Cloud Professional Certification, PMI Project Management Professional (PMP).
