The Leidos Digital Modernization Sector Health IT Division is on the lookout for a Senior Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solution Architect who possesses extensive knowledge and proficiency in AWS technologies and architecture. This role is crucial in guiding Federal Health clients through their cloud migration journey, focusing on the design, implementation, and optimization of cloud-based solutions on the AWS platform. The Senior AWS Solution Architect will ensure the infrastructure is scalable, secure, and high-performing, aligning with operational needs and user requirements. Collaboration with SecDevOps teams, stakeholders, and AWS representatives will be essential to deliver innovative solutions that enhance cloud adoption.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of AWS services, infrastructure components, security best practices, and architectural patterns. Responsibilities include:

  • Cloud Architecture Design:
    • Assist users in conceptualizing and designing robust AWS solutions, offering guidance on resource allocation, scalability, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance enhancement.
    • Create and maintain detailed cloud architecture blueprints for enterprise applications and workloads.
    • Assess and recommend the most appropriate AWS services and configurations for optimal performance and cost efficiency.
    • Design scalable and resilient cloud solutions tailored to the specific requirements of workload owners.
  • Solution Implementation:
    • Lead the deployment of cloud solutions, including migrating existing applications and developing new cloud-native applications.
    • Provide insights during the implementation process regarding deployment strategies, automation, and monitoring.
    • Configure and optimize AWS services, ensuring compliance with best practices and security standards.
    • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and management utilizing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools.
  • Technical Guidance and Support:
    • Offer expert technical guidance to IT teams and stakeholders on AWS best practices, architectural patterns, and troubleshooting methods.
    • Mentor and train junior cloud engineers on AWS technologies and solution design principles.
    • Collaborate with AWS representatives to leverage their expertise and stay updated on the latest AWS offerings.
    • Identify and resolve issues in existing AWS environments, analyze performance bottlenecks, and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
    • Provide expert advice on AWS-related topics, including cloud migration strategies, security hardening, compliance requirements, and system integration.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Monitor cloud performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
    • Conduct regular reviews of cloud infrastructure and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Ensure that cloud solutions are highly available, fault-tolerant, and resilient to disasters.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Design and implement cloud security measures to safeguard data and applications.
    • Ensure adherence to relevant security standards, regulations, and policies.
    • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with a minimum of 12+ years of experience in architecting and implementing AWS cloud solutions.
  • AWS Certified: AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale, complex migrations involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with AWS cloud technologies and migration methodologies.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (CloudFormation, Terraform) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Experience with AWS DevOps for CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless computing.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • ITIL Foundations certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.) and their integration.
  • Strong scripting abilities (Python, Bash) and experience with automation frameworks.
  • Experience delivering IT services in support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or within a biomedical research context.
  • Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Professional Certification, PMI Project Management Professional (PMP).
