Position Summary

The Loudoun County Department of Family Services (DFS) is in search of a meticulous and analytical professional to fill the role of Finance Operations Supervisor within our Finance Team. This team is responsible for processing all supplier payments for the department and overseeing all accounts payable transactions and reporting. This role includes supervising two Accounting Technicians.

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Ensuring the accuracy of financial documents, including purchase order requisitions, invoices, and payment requests.
  • Reconciling accounts within the general ledger.
  • Investigating and analyzing discrepancies in accounting records.
  • Managing grant renewals and complex drawdown processes.
  • Monitoring budgetary revenues and expenditures to guarantee compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Overseeing the year-end Accounts Payable closing process.
  • Preparing necessary audit documentation to support local, state, and federal audits.
  • Assessing internal controls, conducting policy reviews, and documenting processes.
  • Collaborating with interdepartmental contacts.
  • Coordinating with Program Managers and the Finance Manager to ensure adherence to County fiscal policies, federal and state regulations, and the County budget.
  • Providing training to intra-departmental personnel on relevant processes.
  • Supervising the Finance Operations team, conducting performance evaluations, and approving timecards.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, ensuring precision in all responsibilities. Collaboration is essential, as this position will engage with various team members to accomplish shared objectives. The ability to build relationships, both internally and externally, will be pivotal for success in this role. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for developing and updating a comprehensive training program, documentation, and policies, utilizing analytical skills to effectively assess and address organizational needs. Critical thinking will be vital for evaluating complex situations, problem-solving, and making informed decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; three (3) years of relevant experience in professional accounting, preferably within a government context; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA) or experience in governmental accounting is preferred.
