Job Summary

UCLA Health is seeking a skilled Prevention Advocate to join our team in reducing the transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C in our community. As a key member of our Syringe Services Program, you will play a vital role in providing essential services to individuals at risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in syringe exchange programs, providing sterile syringes and proper disposal of used ones.
  • Conduct HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling, educating clients on safer injection practices, overdose prevention, and harm reduction strategies.
  • Ensure newly diagnosed HIV+ and/or Hep C+ clients are referred and linked to medical services.
  • Engage in outreach activities, providing our Syringe Services Program to individuals experiencing homelessness, and building relationships with community gatekeepers.
  • Seek clients and provide referrals to services offered by our Common Ground program.
  • Develop and maintain culturally appropriate education and outreach materials, and build a network of agencies and community members to expand the Syringe Services Program.
  • Perform other duties, including data collection, compiling reports, and supporting colleagues as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in providing individualized HIV health education, testing, and counseling, as well as Hepatitis C testing.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, PrEP, PEP, community resources, Hepatitis C, and STDs, harm reduction, and syringe exchange.
  • Database management and maintenance skills, including data entry and queries.
  • Ability to complete required program documentation, and public speaking and leadership skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively, and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to discuss sensitive matters in a non-judgmental manner, and work effectively with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
