Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Specialist for PrEP Initiatives is responsible for executing outreach and community engagement efforts aimed at enhancing awareness about PrEP and PEP within the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the creation and execution of a community mobilization strategy focused on outreach locations, assess the effectiveness of these efforts, and identify areas for improvement and opportunities for further outreach.
  • Establish a structured outreach plan for the target demographic, including a minimum of 2-4 outreach events monthly; maintain an updated directory of outreach sites frequented by the target group.
  • Facilitate four (4) Community Education sessions concentrating on PrEP and associated biomedical interventions.
  • Leverage social media platforms to enhance outreach initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development, design, and production of social marketing materials that support prevention efforts, including program flyers, promotional campaigns, and monthly schedules.
  • Assist in sharing insights gained by preparing and submitting abstracts for presentations at professional gatherings and speaking at community events.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure services are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Compile quantitative and qualitative reports as required.
  • Act as a speaker/facilitator for training sessions.
  • Attend community and public meetings as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities:

Other tasks may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

Associate's degree in a human services-related field with one year of experience in HIV/health education, or two years of experience in the HIV/health education sector.

Knowledge of:

PrEP/PEP, health disparities related to HIV and STD, harm reduction principles, behavior modification strategies, human sexuality, substance use and abuse, motivational interviewing techniques, outreach methodologies, data management, and the health and social issues affecting diverse populations, including gay/non-gay identified MSM and other groups significantly impacted by HIV.

Skills:

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams, engage effectively with community stakeholders, organize community efforts, identify specific goals related to harm reduction, manage competing deadlines in a dynamic environment, respond sensitively to social inequities, maintain confidentiality, and connect participants to PrEP Express.

Working Conditions:

This position is primarily office-based, requiring occasional physical activities such as bending, reaching, and lifting materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Daily use of a personal computer is necessary, involving entering, viewing, and modifying text and graphics. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.

Special Requirements:

A valid California driver's license, proof of auto liability insurance, and access to a personal vehicle for work-related activities are mandatory. Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate outreach activities during evenings and weekends is essential.
