Family Service League is seeking a dedicated Advocate to join our team at a homeless shelter in Smithtown. As an Advocate, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of families and their children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce shelter rules and regulations to maintain a safe environment.
  • Conduct intake consent forms and curfew checks to ensure compliance.
  • Provide ongoing support and counseling to clients in achieving their goals.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Work cooperatively to resolve problems and enhance the program.
  • Provide conflict resolution strategies and support to clients.
  • Conduct regular perimeter checks for safety and security.
  • Issue violations for breaking rules and regulations.
  • Open locker and sheds for clients to access their belongings.
  • Oversee and document clients while they self-administer medication.
  • Serve meals and ensure clients have access to basic necessities.
  • Supervise bedtime, distribute bed rolls, and ensure linens are placed in the laundry bin.
  • Routine bed and bathroom checks to ensure safety and document log.
  • Access donation closet for clothing as needed.
  • Oversee shower times and distribute toiletries as needed.
  • Report and document all incidents with detail and accuracy.
  • Transport clients as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in human services preferred.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, required.
  • Valid and clean NYS Driver's License required.
  • Flexibility to work at different sites is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work weekends required.
