Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Assistant to join our team at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. As a key member of our Exceptional Children services, you will provide instructional support and assistance to students with disabilities, working closely with certified educators to ensure their academic and personal success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute lesson plans tailored to individual students' needs, seeking guidance as necessary.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students, adapting strategies and materials as directed.
  • Implement behavior plans and use prescribed strategies to support students' behavior.
  • Monitor student movement and provide personal care assistance, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Collect and record data, monitoring progress and providing information to teachers.
  • Administer tests according to individualized education plans and provide information to teachers.
  • Support students in the classroom, promoting positive behavior and collaboration with teachers.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree or 48 college credit hours with a concentration in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development.
  • High School Diploma/GED and completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program or the NC ATA Professional Development Plan.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and electronic formats, as well as in-person.
  • Ability to use a computer or other electronic devices for communication, instruction, data recording, and location of information.
  • Ability to collaborate with district staff to identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and compassion when dealing with students and/or parents and their personal and educational needs.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent walking, standing, and sitting, as well as occasional lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. The ability to drive a car between sites is also required.
