Smart Start of Forsyth County (SSFC) has been a cornerstone in the early childhood education landscape since its inception in 1994. With a robust budget exceeding $15 million, SSFC is dedicated to enhancing the educational framework for young children, particularly those with special needs. The organization plays a pivotal role in administering Forsyth County's North Carolina Pre-K Program, which provides complimentary Pre-K education to eligible children. SSFC is also a leader in research, data analysis, and community collaboration focused on children aged 0-8.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Teaching and Learning Services Specialist is a vital role within SSFC, responsible for delivering technical support that fosters child development and best practices in early childhood education. This position emphasizes coaching and modeling techniques for early childhood educators in various childcare settings. The Specialist will also conduct training sessions aimed at elevating the educational qualifications and competencies of early educators, ensuring equitable access to quality learning experiences for all children, including those with special needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize a coaching methodology that includes joint planning, observation, practical application, reflection, and constructive feedback to enhance educator performance.
  • Support early childhood educators in creating a positive learning environment that encourages effective teacher-child interactions.
  • Assist in developing age-appropriate classroom setups that promote optimal learning.
  • Collaborate with educators to create and monitor Technical Assistance (TA) Plans.
  • Evaluate progress and success in achieving goals outlined in TA Plans.
  • Conduct classroom observations using established assessment tools.
  • Assess educational environments through various rating scales.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and professional development opportunities for educators.
  • Provide ongoing support to ensure the effective implementation of educational practices.
  • Maintain detailed records of services provided, including observations, assessments, and training sessions.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends in early childhood education and related fields.
  • Represent SSFC in collaborative efforts with other professionals and within the community.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Engage in community events sponsored by SSFC.
  • Travel as necessary to various educational centers and training locations.
  • Maintain proficiency in current childcare regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two to five years of relevant experience in early childhood education, including roles such as director, technical assistance specialist, or classroom teacher.
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Possess or be willing to obtain relevant certifications in early childhood education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other educational software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primarily sedentary work with occasional physical activity, including standing, walking, and light lifting.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Capability to perform various physical movements as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to different locations for work-related purposes.
  • Adept at identifying potential safety hazards.
