Position Summary:

The New Product SMT Process Engineer plays a crucial role in assessing new product designs to ensure efficient, high-quality, and repeatable manufacturing processes. This position supports a high-mix, low-volume production environment, addressing process challenges such as SMT/TH defects and enhancing assembly workflows. Responsibilities include conducting operator training on new or updated technologies, coordinating first-piece activities, and leading process defect reviews. The engineer will operate within an AS9100 quality system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess new engineering designs for manufacturability and collaborate to resolve issues.
  • Investigate new SMT technologies and methodologies to support product designs.
  • Oversee the complete SMT line management.
  • Possess programming knowledge of all SMT line components.
  • Troubleshoot production-related defects and drive process improvements to root cause resolution.
  • Understand current manufacturing equipment limitations thoroughly.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes, including changeovers and setups, to enhance production efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure alignment among all relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Several years of experience in New Product Introduction, with a focus on Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct SMT manufacturing experience is required.
  • IPC-610/JSTD-001 certification is mandatory.
  • Good working knowledge of Circuit CAM and Gerber is essential.

Language Proficiency:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with equipment such as MY500 Jet Printer or equivalent paste screening, My100 pick and place equipment (including programming and troubleshooting), Selective Solder or equivalent, Mirtec/Viscom AOI, CircuitCam, and Aegis is a plus.
