Position Summary:

The New Product SMT Process Engineer is tasked with assessing new product designs to ensure efficient, high-quality, and repeatable manufacturing processes. This role supports a high-mix, low-volume production environment and addresses process challenges, including SMT/TH defects and assembly flow enhancements. Responsibilities also include conducting operator training on new or updated technologies, coordinating first-piece activities, and leading process defect reviews, all within an AS9100 quality framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess new engineering designs for manufacturability and collaborate to resolve any issues.
  • Investigate new SMT technologies and methodologies to enhance product designs.
  • Oversee the management of a complete SMT line.
  • Possess programming knowledge of all components of an SMT line.
  • Troubleshoot production-related defects and implement process improvements to achieve root cause resolution.
  • Understand current manufacturing equipment limitations thoroughly.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes, including changeovers and setups, to enhance production efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure alignment and buy-in from all relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • Several years of experience in New Product Introduction, with a focus on Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct SMT manufacturing experience is required.
  • IPC-610/JSTD-001 certification is mandatory.
  • Proficient understanding of Circuit CAM and Gerber.

Language Proficiency:

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with equipment such as MY500 Jet Printer or equivalent paste screening, My100 pick and place machinery, Selective Solder, Mirtec/Viscom AOI, CircuitCam, and Aegis is advantageous.
