Clinical Operations Manager (RN) - Observation Unit (Nights)


The Clinical Operations Manager (COM) is a Registered Nurse tasked with ensuring the provision of exceptional, evidence-based, and secure patient care.

The COM plays a pivotal role in offering clinical oversight and coordinating daily functions alongside various disciplines in partnership with the Nurse Manager and Associate Nurse Manager.

This role requires a minimum commitment of 0.75 FTE and is essential in delivering leadership and mentorship that significantly influences the professional growth of team members. The COM is instrumental in fostering a supportive and inclusive professional practice environment, thereby enhancing a culture of teamwork and engagement.

This position is vital in establishing a collaborative atmosphere that embodies the principles of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) magnet model, facilitating the advancement of nursing excellence.

Position entails full-time responsibilities, comprising 60 hours biweekly, during NIGHT shifts. The role includes obligations for every third weekend and every other holiday.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a clinical authority by providing guidance and mentorship to team members, promoting a culture centered on quality and safety.
  • Encourages a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, acknowledging and supporting diversity.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and Associate Nurse Manager to cultivate a professional work environment and a culture of engagement.
  • Works in partnership with the interprofessional team to coordinate the delivery of evidence-based practices and high-quality patient care.
  • Oversees the review and management of Incident Reports (IR), including the investigation of incidents and follow-up actions.
  • Serves as a leader in conflict management and resolution.
  • Conducts quality audits of clinical care and daily management systems throughout the unit/department.
  • Engages in patient and family rounding throughout the unit/department.
  • Participates in and supports shared governance activities, departmental, and organizational initiatives.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of current professional practice standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Contributes to performance management and ensures the completion of annual competencies and mandatory education requirements for team members, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Associate Nurse Manager.
  • Involved in the interviewing, selection, and onboarding processes for new team members.
  • Prepares schedules and staff assignments, ensuring adequate coverage across all shifts.
  • Assists in the administration of payroll, approval, and timekeeping responsibilities for team members.
  • Provides and supervises direct patient care, including patient assignments and staff reallocation as necessary to achieve optimal quality of care and enhance patient and family experiences.
  • Acts as a financial steward for the department.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse license in Delaware or compact required.
  • American Heart Association BLS and PALS certifications required.
  • ANCC approved professional board certification specific to clinical practice; must be obtained within one year of employment.
  • BSN required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in roles such as Clinical Nurse, Preceptor, or Charge Nurse.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
