Job Summary

Skadden is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Chicago. This role will be responsible for performing cross-functional Human Resources assignments, including Employee Relations, Training and Development, HRIS, FMLA/Benefits Administration, Accommodations, Policy Administration, and Recruitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the recruitment and on-boarding process of Professional Staff employees, including collaborating with hiring managers to develop diverse recruitment strategies.
  • Ensure recruitment efforts are in compliance with OFCCP regulations and are consistent with a government contractor status.
  • Administer FMLA, including meeting with employees, maintaining files, tracking leave related to intermittent FMLA, unpaid leave and disability leave, and coordinating FMLA recertification.
  • Process status changes in HRIS system related to disability, FMLA and unpaid leave and provide supporting documentation.
  • Facilitate the accommodation process in accordance with the ADA.
  • Maintain accommodation files and documentation.
  • Handle Employee Relations issues, including coaching, counseling, documentation and administering disciplinary action and terminations.
  • Participate in the training and development provided to staff, including meeting with facilitators, customizing training content, auditing classes, maintaining the Skadden University website and training and development calendar, collecting feedback and processing reports as needed.
  • Partner with the Chicago Office Well-being Committee and Global Well-being Manager to plan and execute well-being programs and initiatives for the Chicago Office.
  • Assist with policy administration, including creating, updating, and interpreting policies for Professional Staff.
  • Participate in the annual update to all Chicago policies and the annual acknowledgement process.
  • Participate in annual audits of job descriptions, internal processes and documentation; ensure accuracy of responsibilities, consistency and compliance with FLSA requirements.
  • Participate in the Professional Staff annual performance review process, off-cycle reviews and progress reports.
  • Conduct market research and perform internal and external pay analyses.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of employee recognition, service award, engagement, and other office events.
  • Facilitate the employee departure process, process HRIS data entry and conduct exit interviews.
  • Participate in the implementation and coordination of department projects, including identifying resources, overseeing progress of ongoing projects and communicating closely with management regarding progress of projects.
  • Provide general HR support and guidance to other offices as needed.
  • Seek to enhance knowledge of Human Resources procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Manage Firm resources responsibly.
  • Comply with and understand Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of Human Resources practices, techniques and business trends.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local labor and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Broad and thorough knowledge of Excel and MS Word and a understanding of employee database applications.
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Takes initiative and responsibility when dealing with departmental issues.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team.
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work and advance skills independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Regular and reliable physical presence to work as part of a team to respond to on-site needs, and execute employee engagement programming.
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
  • Flexibility to travel.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of seven years of related Human Resources experience.
