The primary role of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor is to oversee and manage all aspects of mechanical, electrical, civil, contractual, and instrumentation maintenance to guarantee that the power generation facilities operated by Oglethorpe Power are maintained effectively, ensuring dependable and efficient electric power production in line with corporate safety protocols and all relevant governmental regulations. Establish benchmarks, methodologies, and procedures to uphold system integrity, equipment functionality, and performance assessments of units/plants. Ensure the availability of essential tools, equipment, consumables, and spare parts to support the maintenance requirements of the facilities managed by Oglethorpe Power. Administer a Long-Term Service Agreement with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to ensure that sound recommendations regarding safety, reliability, and integrity of products and services are thoroughly evaluated. Responsible for ensuring reliable and efficient electric power generation while adhering to corporate safety policies, mandatory electric reliability standards, and all applicable governmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the maintenance team at the facility to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable functioning in compliance with warranty stipulations and corporate policies.
  • Develop and manage capital and operational budgets for the maintenance department, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and accountability for expenditures.
  • Coordinate the creation and execution of technical, mechanical, electrical, civil, and instrumentation programs to enhance equipment durability.
  • Oversee the development and revision of maintenance protocols; ensure maximum safety for personnel and equipment, operational efficiency, and effective manpower utilization.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of all maintenance initiatives.
  • Diagnose and resolve maintenance challenges to ensure uninterrupted and economical operations.
  • Manage significant overhauls and outages; supervise and assess contractor performance.
  • Facilitate the development and execution of on-the-job training programs to enhance the proficiency of maintenance personnel; monitor and assess the effectiveness of training initiatives while maintaining an active role in employee relations.
  • Ensure the availability of adequate parts, materials, supplies, tools, and testing equipment to perform scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain up-to-date qualifications, system knowledge, and understanding of corporate policies, licensing requirements, and emergency action plans as they pertain to employment practices.
Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a four-year college degree is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in power plant maintenance, including gas, coal, hydro, or nuclear units, with at least four (4) years in supervisory or management roles. Experience at the journeyman level or equivalent is preferred.

Equivalent Experience:
  • Eight (8) years of experience, including four (4) years in supervisory roles, along with a four (4) year college degree, OR
  • Ten (10) years of experience, including four (4) years in supervisory roles, and two (2) years of college education.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong team collaboration skills.
  • Effective personnel management and motivational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and develop instructions from technical manuals and literature, and communicate effectively in both oral and written English.
  • Independent decision-making capabilities in high-pressure situations while keeping senior management informed.
  • Proficient in managing financial budgets and assets.
  • Ability to guide others in testing, troubleshooting, and equipment management.
  • Capability to provide technical direction during equipment modifications and repairs.
  • Experience in contractor management as required.
  • Proficient in using personal computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Ability to plan, assign, manage, and inspect the work of others.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license meeting insurance eligibility requirements.

Travel Requirements: 15%

On-Call Requirements: This position requires availability to address emergency situations at the facilities, necessitating standby duty.
