The Vehicle Design and Innovation Department (VDID) specializes in space vehicle design and evaluation; systems engineering; independent design assessments; analysis, modeling, process development, and leadership; as well as rapid concept prototyping. As a Technical Staff Member/Senior Technical Staff Member in Systems Engineering within VDID, you will be instrumental in crafting the next generation of pioneering space vehicle designs to address the most pressing challenges faced by our US Space Force, Intelligence Community, NASA, NOAA, and commercial/international partners.

Work Model: This is a full-time role that necessitates a presence in the office several days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging in preliminary design studies for spacecraft concepts, which may involve both small-scale efforts and larger, multidisciplinary teams of experts.
  • Assisting in the ongoing development, maintenance, and enhancement of the tools and models utilized during spacecraft design and evaluation processes.
  • Assessing the viability of spacecraft and space architecture concepts during critical milestone evaluations such as Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review.
  • Establishing expertise in spacecraft-level systems engineering to facilitate the execution of customer programs.
  • Building strong collaborative relationships with government, program office, and contractor personnel, as well as other members of Aerospace's engineering team.

Qualifications for Success - Technical Staff Member, Systems Engineering

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • A minimum of 1 year of pertinent technical experience.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft subsystems and systems engineering principles.
  • Experience with concurrent engineering methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative setting; proficiency in office and collaboration software, such as MS Office.
  • Willingness to travel domestically on an occasional basis.
  • A current and active Top Secret/SCI security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is necessary to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications for Success - Senior Technical Staff Member, Systems Engineering

  • All requirements associated with the Technical Staff Member role.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant technical experience.

Distinguishing Factors

  • An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in engineering or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and systems engineering principles.
  • Advanced understanding of concurrent engineering methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation software, and programming languages, including but not limited to: MATLAB, Python, Simulink, STK, C++, VBA, SolidWorks, Cameo, or similar.
  • Demonstrated initiative to proactively seek out work, cultivate relationships across organizations, and identify and resolve issues as they arise.
