Fire Alarm Systems Inspection Specialist

Location: Stafford, VA

The Fire Alarm Systems Inspection Specialist is tasked with performing comprehensive evaluations, assessments, and upkeep of fire alarm systems across a range of residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

This role is crucial in ensuring that fire alarm systems operate effectively, adhere to safety standards, and are equipped to detect and alert individuals in case of a fire emergency.

The Specialist collaborates closely with clients, property owners, and other relevant parties to guarantee the dependability and performance of fire alarm systems.


Key Responsibilities:

Evaluation and Assessment:


Conduct regular evaluations and operational tests on fire alarm systems, encompassing control panels, detectors, alarms, lights, and other system elements.

Utilize testing instruments and tools to confirm the proper operation of fire alarm devices and systems.

Diagnose and resolve issues, such as wiring problems, defective components, or system failures.

Perform visual inspections to ensure adherence to fire safety regulations and standards.

Maintenance and Repairs:
Execute preventive maintenance activities, including cleaning, calibration, and adjustment of fire alarm system components.

Replace malfunctioning or outdated components, such as detectors, batteries, wiring, and control panels.

Maintain detailed records of maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs conducted.

Respond to urgent repair requests and perform troubleshooting to rectify system failures.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure fire alarm systems comply with local, state, and national fire safety regulations and standards.

Keep precise documentation of inspections, tests, repairs, and system enhancements.

Assist in preparing reports and submitting necessary documentation to relevant authorities as required.

Stay informed about current fire alarm system technologies, codes, and standards to ensure compliance and suggest system improvements.

Client Interaction and Communication:
Effectively communicate with clients, property owners, and other stakeholders regarding inspection results, repair suggestions, and system status.

Provide guidance and training to clients on the appropriate use and maintenance of fire alarm systems.

Address client inquiries, concerns, and service requests promptly and professionally.

Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with other technicians and team members to coordinate inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

Assist in the installation and commissioning of new fire alarm systems as necessary.

Participate in training programs and stay updated on industry best practices.

Basic knowledge of Fire Alarm programming software

Bluebeam

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED (required) with 5 years of relevant experience.

Certifications:

Possess NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level I or pass NICET I exam within 90 days of employment.

Physical and Personal Requirements:

Ability to lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.

Ability to relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.


Work at various heights up to 60 feet and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.

Ability to walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead routinely.


Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate effectively.

Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Must consistently report to work on time and work well with other employees to achieve a common goal while maintaining a safe work environment.

Advanced troubleshooting skills, including researching online and utilizing system manuals to resolve issues.

Knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, Fire Alarm System Theory, OSHA Requirements, and Industry Standards for Fire Alarm systems installation.
