Position: Office Adjuster

Location: Wilson, NC

Department: Claims

Reports To: District Claims Manager

Overview

An Office Adjuster (OA) is responsible for investigating, assessing, and negotiating settlements for specific categories of claims within an office environment. OAs in our Field District Claims Office handle both casualty and property claims of limited scope, while those in our Medical Claims District focus on resolving claims related to Medical Payments coverage.

Essential Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. The ability to conduct business professionally, whether via telephone or written correspondence, is crucial, especially in high-pressure situations. A dependable and responsible individual who can work both independently and collaboratively is desired. Maintaining continuing education in accordance with N.C. Department of Insurance and Ncfbins requirements is necessary. Familiarity with medical/legal terminology is advantageous for roles in our Medical Claims District, while an interest in auto and home repair, as well as contract analysis, is beneficial for those in our Field District Claims Offices.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Verify coverage on loss assignments.
  2. Initiate and maintain communication with insured parties and claimants.
  3. Establish and update reserves as necessary.
  4. Adhere to regulatory guidelines.
  5. Assess covered damages using available resources.
  6. Investigate losses and apply policy coverage appropriately.
  7. Determine legal liability for losses and damages.
  8. Process payments or denials of claims.
  9. Maintain detailed notes and reports on claims in various stages of processing.
  10. Manage and control expenses effectively.
  11. Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications for Senior Office Adjuster

Recommendations from the District Claim Manager and Regional Claim Manager are required. A minimum of five years of experience as an Office Adjuster or in a comparable adjusting role with Ncfbins is necessary. Successful completion of all mandated industry coursework is expected, along with passing assessments on company contracts and general claims knowledge.
