Job Description

Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer - Automotive Closures

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive mindset and approach their responsibilities with enthusiasm and dedication.

They should possess the ability to quickly adapt and perform effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, showcasing exceptional multitasking skills.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop automotive closures hardware and mechanisms, including components such as window regulators, handles, hinges, latches, and power actuators from concept to production.
  • Ensure excellence in design at both system and component levels, focusing on performance, size, weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external suppliers, leveraging creativity and teamwork to integrate various systems efficiently.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization, including Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, and Manufacturing, to produce top-tier designs.
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams, utilizing analysis results to refine and enhance designs.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to optimize process sequences and ensure high-quality builds.
  • Collaborate with various departments on tool buy-offs and modifications to components.
  • Develop testing plans and conduct physical tests to validate design concepts and confirm performance targets.
  • Perform detailed analyses of materials and manufacturing processes through benchmarking to assess design competitiveness.
  • Manage virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities for your designs.
  • Communicate effectively with interfacing suppliers.
  • Provide guidance to team members and negotiate balanced solutions.
  • Determine necessary tolerances using GD&T.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive closures hardware and mechanisms within an OEM or supplier environment.
  • Proven track record in successful system-level integration.
  • Experience with Class A surface data.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, particularly CATIA V5/V6 or similar.
  • Hands-on experience in prototype and production assembly, with a willingness to assemble components personally.
  • Familiarity with technology, system, and supplier selection processes.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving approach grounded in engineering principles.
  • Experience in design release engineering, including change management and project oversight.
  • Strong understanding of analysis tools such as ANSYS, OptiStruct, and MatLab.
  • Demonstrated excellence in previous roles, showcasing creativity in resolving mechanical design challenges.
  • Experience in the full product development lifecycle from concept through to production.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes relevant to closures hardware, including injection molding and stamping.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience in automotive closures.
