Fleet Operations Manager

Job Summary:

Rural Metro is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the staff and operations of the Fleet Services Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the fleet inventory, preparing and monitoring the department's budget, negotiating with vendors, and providing leadership and management skills to staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the fleet inventory, including purchasing and tracking of vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepare and monitor the department's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficiency.
  • Negotiate with vendors to secure the best possible deals on fleet-related services and supplies.
  • Provide leadership and management skills to staff, including training, development, and performance management.
  • Oversee the daily maintenance projects of the Fleet department, ensuring that all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and repaired.
  • Manage special fleet projects, including the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs.
  • Work closely with General Managers and Division General Manager to ensure service levels are maintained.
  • Design and implement aggressive customer service and quality assurance programs.
  • Supervise, direct, and develop subordinates, including completing performance reviews, counseling sessions, and development plans.
  • Develop and maintain department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficiency.
  • Supervise staff, set goals, and hold people accountable for results.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices.

Requirements:

  • 3-4 years of fleet/mechanical experience required.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and other related regulations.
  • Prior fiscal experience in expense management, purchasing, inventory control, and revenue source development preferred.
  • Excellent management, supervisory, and overall leadership skills, including relationship building and fostering excellent achievement through teamwork.
  • Diesel experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner and appearance always.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • BS/BA or equivalent experience in related field.
  • ASE Certification preferred.
  • EVT Certification preferred.

Working Environment:

The Fleet Manager will occasionally work extended hours outside normal business hours. The Fleet Manager will also occasionally work in extreme hot and cold, temperature changes, noise, and fumes/odors/mists. Driving approximately 10% of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately high.
