Position Summary:
The Camp Operations Support Specialist will play a crucial role in the effective functioning of the Hog Island Audubon Camp. Reporting to the Facility and Operations Manager, this position involves collaboration with kitchen, maintenance, and programming teams. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the procurement and transportation of food supplies from local sources, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with health standards.
- Supporting kitchen operations through food preparation and cleanliness, while working alongside dedicated volunteers.
- Maintaining the camp facilities, including light maintenance tasks such as painting and grounds upkeep.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of camp vehicles and boats, including regular fueling and maintenance checks.
- Facilitating boat shuttles for staff and guests, ensuring smooth transportation services.
- Managing the Hog Island Nature Store, overseeing inventory and customer service.
The Camp Operations Support Specialist is expected to reside on Hog Island, with shared accommodations provided. Meals will be available during operational hours. The work schedule consists of 40 hours per week, with a focus on maintaining camp operations and delivering exceptional service.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with local sourcing of food and supplies, including pickups and ferrying items across from the mainland.
- Collaborate with volunteers to ensure efficient delivery and service.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment, including regular waste management.
- Support kitchen staff with food preparation and sanitation tasks.
- Oversee camp grounds maintenance, including routine gardening activities.
- Operate camp boats for scheduled transportation needs.
- Perform light maintenance duties and assist with larger projects as needed.
- Participate in team meetings to enhance communication and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Availability for the seasonal role is preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and adaptability are essential.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Interest in environmental conservation is encouraged.
- Experience in communal living or retail environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with property maintenance and volunteer coordination is preferred.
- Must successfully pass a federal background check.
- Experience with small motor or row boats is desirable.
