Job Summary:

The National Audubon Society is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Camp Operations Assistant at Hog Island Audubon Camp. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the camp, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting our conservation efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the acquisition and transportation of food and supplies, including pickups from local farms and deliveries, ensuring timely and efficient delivery to the camp.
  • Interface with volunteers and staff to ensure seamless delivery completion and maintain a clean and healthy working environment.
  • Help maintain a clean and healthy working environment, including regular removal of trash, recycling, and compost.
  • Assist kitchen staff with food preparation and cleaning tasks, ensuring high-quality food service to our guests.
  • Maintain camp grounds through routine mowing and watering of the gardens, ensuring a beautiful and welcoming environment for our guests.
  • Operate camp boats for weekly shuttle needs, including all Saturday boat operations, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of guests and staff.
  • Perform light maintenance, including painting, cleaning, and assisting with larger maintenance projects, to ensure the camp's facilities are well-maintained and safe for use.
  • Oversee the Hog Island Nature Store, including sales of merchandise, inventory, and restocking, to ensure a positive and engaging experience for our guests.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Hog Island staff, ensuring open communication and collaboration to achieve our goals.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old or older with a valid driver's license.
  • Preferred candidate will be able to stand for extended periods and lift at least 50 pounds, as well as walk up to two miles at a time.
  • Sense of humor, strong work ethic, and flexibility are essential for this role.
  • Available for required weekend work and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sincere interest in birds and environmental issues is encouraged, but not required.
  • Prior experience in communal live/work spaces, property maintenance, retail sales, and working with volunteers is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check.
  • Experience with or desire to learn use of small motor or row boats is required.
