Job Overview

Position Summary
The Morgan Autism Center (MAC) offers a specialized educational program designed for students aged 5 to 22 who are diagnosed with autism and other developmental challenges. Our approach emphasizes a personalized learning environment with a low staff-to-student ratio.

Role Responsibilities
The Instructional Support Specialist will play a crucial role in assisting educators within a classroom setting tailored for individuals with developmental disabilities. Daily tasks will encompass various instructional strategies aimed at enhancing both academic and essential life skills for our students. Ideal candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of our students. Applicants must be prepared to handle a range of behavioral situations and apply structured support techniques under the guidance of the classroom instructor. While assigned to a specific classroom, there may be opportunities to provide support in other areas as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written
  • Ability to lift and physically assist students when necessary
  • Must pass TB test and background checks
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance if transporting students

Supervision Structure
Directly reports to the Classroom Teacher, with overall oversight from Program Directors and the Executive Director.

Work Schedule
Regular School Year: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 2:45 PM, observing major holidays.
Summer Session: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:15 PM, observing major holidays.

Compensation
Starting hourly wage is $25.75 without a Bachelor's Degree and $26.25 with a Bachelor's Degree.

Key Responsibilities Level I

  • Familiarize yourself with the MAC employee handbook and adhere to the MAC educational philosophy and employment policies.
  • Support the classroom teacher in instructing and supervising students according to their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and behavior plans.
  • Review and understand the specific goals and behavioral profiles of assigned students to assist them effectively.
  • Communicate any notable circumstances or challenges regarding individual students to the classroom teacher.
  • Deliver instruction as per the curriculum set by the classroom teacher or supervising staff.
  • Engage in physical education activities, assisting students in developing physical skills.
  • Help teachers gather data on student goals and behaviors.
  • Assist with personal care needs of students, including toileting, dressing, and feeding.
  • Utilize various communication methods to interact with students.
  • Occasionally transport students during school-sponsored outings, if required.
  • Participate in all required meetings, training sessions, and special events.
  • Maintain an organized personal workspace and assist in classroom upkeep.
  • Ensure the safety and ongoing supervision of assigned students at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
