As a School Therapist, your primary role will involve assisting students in achieving success academically, socially, and emotionally. This will be accomplished through individual and group counseling, as well as collaboration with educators, parents, and other professionals to cultivate a safe and supportive learning atmosphere that enhances the connection between home and school.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering individual and group counseling sessions to address interpersonal or family issues that may hinder academic performance, including crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Conducting interviews with students, family members, and school staff to collect information essential for evaluating students' social, emotional, and behavioral adaptation to school and community.
  • Maintaining regular communication with students' parents/guardians to update them on their child's progress, challenges, and any home situations that may impact school performance.
  • Creating and revising Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIP) in compliance with company, school, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participating in IEP team meetings and facilitating discussions as directed by the school district, while also engaging in other team meetings to address specific student and parent concerns.
  • Collaborating with educational and social service professionals to develop suitable agency services for students and their families.
  • Providing case management for students, which includes coordinating parent meetings, emergency transportation requests, and disciplinary actions, as well as liaising with external therapists.
  • Working with teachers, parents/guardians, district personnel, and service providers to identify effective solutions for learning and behavioral challenges, while maintaining positive public relations and a favorable company image.
  • Ensuring the implementation of positive teaching strategies by conducting monthly observations of classroom staff's adherence to IEP goals and PBIP.
  • Offering guidance and support to teachers in developing classroom schedules, maintaining student data systems, and facilitating student transition plans to ensure alignment with each student's IEP and other relevant objectives.
  • Evaluating student progress through regular reviews of classroom data collection and recording systems, providing necessary training and guidance to classroom staff to meet student needs.
  • Acting as a role model for effective teaching practices and communication, reinforcing the organization's commitment to a behavior analytic and data-driven approach to education.

Qualifications Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in educational counseling, therapy, or a closely related field.
  • Compliance with state and district requirements for appropriate school counselor licensing and/or credentials.
  • Accepted licenses and/or credentials include:
    • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist - LMFT
    • Educational Psychologist
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker - LCSW
    • Licensed Master Social Worker - LMSW
  • Special education certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with emotional disorders and challenging behaviors in an educational setting.
  • Prior experience and knowledge in applied behavior analysis is preferred.
  • Experience working with students in a special education program setting is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication, instructional, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
