Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Science Teacher to join our team at UrbanPromise Ministries. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging Science lesson plans for Middle School students, fostering a love for learning and promoting academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement weekly Science lesson plans that align with the CamdenForward School program curriculum and Common Core Standard guidelines.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine student's developmental levels and needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, incorporating technology into the curriculum for Science.
  • Provide individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
  • Uphold the UrbanPromise values of Faith, Innovation, Community, and Holism, and demonstrate character qualities such as enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, professionalism, and perseverance.
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Cooperate with school administration in facilitating the annual school Science Fair, providing displays and programs for the school and community, and sponsoring science activities.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate, model, and enforce CFS behavior expectations to maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive, trauma-informed learning environment.
  • Communicate and meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on students and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in fundraising and running special events, and working closely with the CFS team to continuously improve department-organization efforts.
Requirements
  • College Degree, Teacher Certification Certificate in Content Area of Science or other relevant subject area.
  • Experience working with urban youth.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse urban students.
  • In-depth understanding of and commitment to the organization's vision and mission.
Physical Requirements

This position includes the normal physical demands associated with work in the office and classroom environment. This position includes the ability to schedule work outside of the typical work week, evenings and weekends.
