Job Overview

Position Summary:

The role of the K-5 educator is to cultivate a dynamic elementary educational environment that promotes both learning and personal development.

The K-5 instructor is expected to build strong connections with students, inspiring them to acquire the skills, attitudes, and knowledge essential for a solid educational foundation tailored to each student's capabilities.

Additionally, the educator will foster positive relationships with parents and colleagues, while being responsible for designing and executing effective lesson plans that align with the standards established by UrbanPromise Ministries and the national NJ State and Common Core standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Exhibit the values of UrbanPromise and embody qualities such as enthusiasm, courtesy, adaptability, integrity, gratitude, kindness, perseverance, and punctuality.
  2. Implement and uphold rules, policies, and procedures to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere, while supervising students during extracurricular activities throughout the school day.
  3. Define clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and effectively communicate these goals to students.
  4. Administer standardized assessments to evaluate students' developmental levels and needs, and interpret the results accordingly.
  5. Demonstrate expertise in both content knowledge and pedagogical strategies.
  6. Integrate technology into the curriculum to enhance instructional methods.
  7. Maintain accurate and comprehensive student records, including grades and reports, in compliance with legal and district requirements.
  8. Engage with parents and guardians to discuss their children's academic progress and identify their educational priorities and resource needs.
  9. Participate in fundraising initiatives and assist in organizing special events for UrbanPromise Ministries, collaborating closely with the team to enhance departmental efforts.
  10. Attend professional development meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops to continuously improve teaching skills and professional knowledge.

Essential Qualifications:

EDUCATION: A Bachelor's Degree in Education and Teaching Certification is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working with urban youth is essential.

SKILLS: Strong classroom management abilities, capacity to engage with diverse urban students, deep understanding of the organization's vision and mission, and leadership skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The role requires the ability to perform typical physical tasks associated with office and classroom environments, including flexibility to work outside standard hours as needed.
