POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Financial Reporting Specialist will collaborate closely with the Financial Reporting Manager and senior management to facilitate the preparation of comprehensive annual and quarterly financial statements. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with SEC regulations and U.S. GAAP standards, while also adhering to industry best practices in financial reporting.

The Lead Financial Reporting Specialist will conduct thorough technical research and provide analytical support for accounting inquiries from the Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBanks). This position is essential in maintaining a robust financial reporting control framework, which includes effective spreadsheet management and documentation practices. Additionally, the Specialist will deliver exceptional service to FHLBanks personnel as required and may oversee junior financial reporting staff as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile and prepare documentation for designated sections of the annual and quarterly financial statements, focusing on the core financial statements, accompanying notes, and Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A).
  • Leverage the Financial Reporting System (FRS) and relevant platforms to collect data for disclosures, ensuring compliance with current SEC and U.S. GAAP requirements.
  • Update and maintain Excel files and/or Workiva templates using data from FRS to calculate combined disclosures for financial reports.
  • Monitor and manage all submissions to ensure version control and accuracy in the preparation of combined financial totals.
  • Review financial data submitted by FHLBanks and engage with relevant personnel to resolve any discrepancies or unusual figures.
  • Ensure adherence to established timelines for the distribution of financial statements and reports.
  • Assist external auditors during the annual audit and quarterly reviews.
  • Conduct technical research on accounting and financial reporting inquiries from FHLBanks and support special projects as needed.
  • Contribute to the administration and development of financial reporting systems and tools.
  • Engage in departmental initiatives and subcommittees as required.
  • Provide customer service to FHLBanks personnel as necessary.
  • Support diversity and inclusion strategies within the organization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited institution.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience.
  • CPA designation or candidacy preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting and/or SEC reporting is required; experience in banking or mortgage banking is a plus.
  • Strong technical and research skills, with a solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Adobe, and Workiva tools.
  • Ability to manage assignments independently and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a customer service orientation and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with diverse accounting personnel.
  • Proven ability to build respectful relationships and resolve conflicts constructively.
